How will my musician be graded in band?
Progress reports will be given quarterly. Students are graded on the following criteria: attendance with instrument on weekly lessons, note reading, rhythm, tone, playing position, and behavior.
5th grade students will be awarded a Certificate of Excellence for participating in all three concerts. 4th grade students shall receive a Certificate of Participation, as will any 5th grade students who attend one or two concerts.
Below is an example of the practice chart and progress report that we will be using this year. Please ask your musician weekly for this.

Guidelines and Policies
- Students should attend with their instruments and participate in their weekly scheduled lesson.
- Beginning students are expected to remain in the band program through the first concert.
- If students wish to change instruments, they are expected to complete a full year of instrument lessons on their initial instrument.
- To be successful, students are expected to maintain a regular home practice routine of 3 to 4 times a week at 10-20 minutes each.
- Any student forgetting their instrument should check in with Ms. Monterose for any new music or assignments.
- Parents will be notified when students miss 2 lessons consecutively.
